What is the smallest age of the child when an ear surgery can be done?

What to expect on day of surgery?

  1. The patient is usually called an empty stomach with 8 hours of fasting as this procedure is usually done under general anaesthesia.
  2. Consent for the procedure is taken and the patient shifted to the OT.
  3. Markings for incision done and pre-operative pictures taken. Patient should understand that these pics are fully confidential and used only for post-op result comparison. They can be used for promotional activities but without your face or name.
  4. The surgical technique is proceeded as per decided technique by our plastic surgeon Dr. Ashish Khare.
  5. Post-operatively dressing is put.

Where is the incision given?

The incision of the surgery is usually given at the back of the ear so that the post-surgery incision line is not visible. Even if incisions are required in front of the ear, they are usually given at natural creases or lines.

What are the immediate complications of ear surgery?

Immediately pain can be a little bothering and supportive pain killers are given. Hematoma, bleeding, infection are the other known complications that can sometimes occur.

What are the late complications of the surgery?

Some of the late complications of the surgery are scarring, asymmetry in-ear placement, changes in skin sensation, and overcorrection.

What are the precautions to take care of post-surgery?

  1. You would be required to take pain killers to take care of pain.
  2. To keep pressure off your ears, avoid sleeping on your side.
  3. Also, try not to rub or place excessive force on the incisions.
  4. Consider wearing button-down shirts or shirts with loose-fitting collars.
  5. Stitches would be taken out in stages as per the doctor's discretion.
